Research done in the last 50 years (see Shuttlebox from the satellite menu) has shown this to be far from true. Many reptiles are now known to be able to regulate their body temperatures quite precisely by behavioural means. One echnique still widely usedto measure the body cemperatures of reptiles in the field is illustrated in the picture.
